BRICKWORK
This course develops skills relating to brickwork crafts. Students will learn about building with a variety of materials and building cavity walls. They will find out how to design and how to work out the quantities needed for building projects. They will also learn about Health and Safety.
CARPENTRY & JOINERY
This course will start developing skills relating to carpentry and joinery crafts. Students will learn how to use both hand and power tools, about building methods and how to produce basic woodworking joints. They will also learn about Health and Safety.
MUSIC TECHNOLOGY & RADIO PRODUCTION
Students will learn about the recording and presentation of music technology through practical activities. They will develop communication and professional skills and working with other musicians. Once a week each student will be part of a live radio show broadcast on the internet. The course also involves some great enrichment and enterprise activities.
HAIRDRESSING & BEAUTY THERAPY
This course explains the hair and beauty sector, how to present a professional image in a salon, shampooing and conditioning, styling hair, nail care and nail art, skin care, dressing hair, basic make-up application, face painting, and plaiting hair. The course also involves some great enrichment and enterprise activities.
HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE
This course will start developing the skills and knowledge students would need to work in Childcare or Health and Social Care. Learning about Employment Rights and Responsibilities, Communication, Health and Safety as well as developments in each of these areas will feature in the course.
MOTORVEHICLE & MOTORCYCLE ENGINEERING
The course will cover all the practical and theory aspects of Vehicle Maintenance on cars and on motorcycles below 125cc. Students will carry out a wide range of practical activities in our fully equipped workshop.
PAINTING & DECORATING
This course will give students the chance to start developing skills relating to painting and decorating crafts. They will learn how to use a wide variety of materials to create different finishes including applying different types of paint and hanging plain and patterned wallpaper. They will also learn about Health and Safety.
PROFESSIONAL COOKERY
At the beginning we will teach the skills needed to work in a professional kitchen. Students will develop skills to work hygienically and use tools and equipment safely. They will then move on to food preparation and cooking techniques. Part of the course will involve providing a professional service in our Chequers Restaurant.
UNIFORMED SERVICES
This Certificate course focuses on getting students physically and mentally prepared for entry into one of the Uniformed Services. It is particularly relevant for careers in the Armed Forces but is also relevant to a career in the Police, Fire or Ambulance Services.
