Gosport College Awards Its Students

Gosport College held its first Awards Ceremony to honour those students who had been awarded for Student of the Year.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Gosport and Caroline Dineage MP for Gosport were the special guests and handed the awards and gifts to the students.

Nigel Duncan, Project Manager for Gosport College, said in his opening speech that there has been an exceptional attendance rate at 93% and a retention rate of 95%. This is a fantastic achievement for the College which has only been open since September and offers a range of vocational, skills based courses.

He said: "All of it is a provision in Gosport for the young people of Gosport. We are set to include Level 2 and 3 at Motor Vehicle and Level 3 in Brickwork next year."

One of the students awarded was Cheryl Brewer who is studying Health and Social Care at Fareport Training Centre. She commented: "I was a bit shocked to find out I'd been awarded. I'd like to work in a care home in the future and I'm currently on placement at Merlin Park where I go twice a week to gain work experience."

"Paul Bower, 19, a Motor Vehicle student added: "I'm going into the Army in August to be a vehicle mechanic in the REME. I thought coming to Gosport College to study mechanics would be a better way of getting into the Army."
