Gosport College will be opened officially at a ceremony on 22 September with a guest list of Gosport VIPs.
The Opening Ceremony will be conducted by Caroline Dinenage, MP for Gosport. It will bring together key people from the Gosport area including representatives from Gosport Borough Council, Hampshire County Council, local employers, dignitaries and education leaders.
Preceding a formal opening ceremony in the evening for invited guests, the College will be open to the public who will be able to see students demonstrating their skills in the vocational areas that they are studying.
Gosport College is a collaborative initiative supported by Brune Park Community College, Bay House School and Sixth Form and Bridgemary Community Sports College in partnership with Fareham College and Fareport Training Limited.
It provides full-time local courses for young people living in Gosport to help them gain valuable skills for future employment. It seeks to reduce the number of young people that are categorised as NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) by giving them purposeful education and training.
Courses are delivered in a range of locations across the Peninsula and include Construction, Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy, Health and Social Care, Motor Vehicle Studies and Motorcycle Engineering, Music Technology & Radio Production, Professional Cookery and Uniformed Services.
Gosport College has its own high street salon that can be accessed by members of the public living locally. It also boasts excellent training facilities for courses in the Construction Trade and Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Engineering.
Ian Potter, Head Teacher of Bay House School and Sixth Form and Joint Chair of the Gosport College Executive Group, commented “This is a very exciting project for Gosport and marks the beginning of the much awaited development of job-related skills provision for Gosport in Gosport.
With the support of Hampshire County Council, Gosport College has made a significant investment in state of the art facilities to support skills based training for the young people of Gosport”.
The College will be recruiting throughout the autumn term to ensure that prospective students are given every opportunity to apply and find out more about how this local venture can support their needs.
