Level 2 Horse Care

Entry requirements

  • 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above
  • An interest in horses
  • No known allergies to animals, hay, wood shavings etc.
  • A current immunization to Tetanus
  • Good level of personal fitness

Course Details

This course gives a basic introduction to working safely with and around horses. You will learn how to consider their needs, maintain horses’ health and fitness and understand the responsibilities required to progress in this field of work.

The course will provide education and training for those who wish to find employment with horses in the areas of stable work and horse husbandry. You will develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for success in working life. The course will include:

  • Routine stable duties
  • Horse handling
  • Health and welfare
  • Equine equipment & clothing
  • Feeding, watering & yard duties
  • Grooming & show preparation
  • Introduction to Horse Biology

Please be aware that due to Health and Safety Regulations a uniform is compulsory and that this will be at the student’s expense.

The course is equivalent to four GCSEs.

On successful completion of this Level 2 course, you will have the potential to work in the equine industry. You may wish to continue studying on a Level 3 Diploma.
